Abode Coming to Vintage Whites!

 Good times for me always include junking ... so when I made my arrow with the Reclaimologists at Abode  on 33rd south just above 9th east a couple of weeks ago ... you knew there would be pictures.

 I had been to the old Abode building on 9th east, further north, several times, when my friends Cathie  and Stephi worked there.

 There were always lots and lots of great items in the tiny building ....

There are still lots and lots of goodies, but in the larger space they are easier to see!!

 Miriam will be bringing a lot of her vintage goodness to the Vintage Whites Show at the Salt Lake Fairgrounds tomorrow ....

So be sure to stop by and see her ... I know I will!!

BTW did you know that Abode's full name is Abode pfm?  The pfm stands for Paris Flea Market!  I love it!

Subway Art on Vintage Trays

 Just finished another reinvention, what do you think?

I have a lot of these trays, because I collected the ones with hand painted flowers and hung them in my kitchen.  Then when I found ugly ones, like the one on top in this picture, or damaged ones, I still had to buy them.  Anyway, thought making them over into subway art might help me sell them.

To reinvent this tray, I first painted it white with flat white spray paint.  Then placed Hazel and Ruby reverse stencils, before painting it black with craft paint.

The stencils bled this time, not sure why, but I ended up having to repaint most of the letters with a tiny brush and white craft paint.  After that I outlined the letters with a sharpy, which I think you can see in this close up.  I liked the extra bit of definition.  Last of all I sprayed the tray with clear spray varnish to seal it.

Today I am listing it on our Reclaimologist sight on face book, wish me well!!  If it sells, it will be time to redo the other sign, in the second picture.

Faking Black and White Enamel Ware with Polka Dots

 I am still in the planning stages for my black and white kitchen, you know, saving great kitchens in a Pinterest file.

But I know I will want black and white accessories, so I have been collecting and adapting a few things to add punch.

My cabinets are a good three feet below the ceiling, so I have been saving up goodies to go there.

 This pitcher was a fairly common looking steel pitcher, similar to the one above, though I think this would work with an old aluminum pitcher as well.

I sprayed several coats of white spray paint on the pitcher, as you see to the right.

Then using craft paints and a foam roller, with the handle removed, I made polka dots around the pitcher.  I later filled in the holes left by the foam roller, with a brush, and painted the rim and handle.

Next I sprayed the pitcher with a high gloss craft paint, available at craft stores.

 Here it is with some enamelware pitchers.  The coffee pot in the middle is one I gave the same treatment as the polka dot pitcher.

I was pretty happy with how it turned out, and plan to do similar treatments to other old metal utilitarian pieces.
