First Monday Trade Days in Canton Texas!

Lucky me!  In Flea Market Heaven! Finally!!
After being promised a flea market adventure that was supposed to happen last fall ... I finally got my wish.  Here I am in my happy place!  Canton Texas First Monday  Trade Days ....
First off I ran into 'Gubba and Dangy Vintage Finds' whom I follow on Instagram!  So fun!
I thought this reinvented iron sewing machine base to chair roject was awesome!
This old sign reminded me of our own Utah co-op chicks, Carla, Sherrie and Denise who always sell at Flea.o.logy!!
How clever is this rusty spring silverware caddy.
I loved finding hoards of goodies that we are short on here at Home!
And I've never seen so many pie birds in one place.
How about a bright yellow jeep grill for your wall?
This lady's booth was so charming!

I loved so many of her displays.
Rolled and folded vintage fabric scraps!!
And wonderful tablecloths!

Using a chair frame to hang aprons is so clever.
And how sweet is this patriotic display!
I bought yards of these old shabby painted antique bead boards!!

Lots of people had stunning hanging baskets with sweet flowers that would just dry up and blow away here.
How fun is this naturally moss covered chaise?
Several dealers had groups of smalls ...
These are all various crystals. They had thousands of them.

After two days it was time to call it!  I bought Mr P homemade peanut brittle, his favorite!  I bought myself her specialty 'jalepeno brittle'. Yep, sounds like Texas it was amazing by the way...
The old propane tank minions wave a friendly goodbye!
The van is loaded with all kinds of vintage goodness and we're headed home!!

Thanks for coming along on my flea adventure!!

Shopping Magnolia Market at the Silos

In my Texas wanderings, of course we had to stop at the silos.
Here's me and Mr P
This is the first display, just inside the doors.

Stoneware bottles
And a very typical Joanna table setting.
Rusty wire soap dishes with signature soaps.
Love this store display.

The plethora of old milk bottles scattered about, was the only actual vintage I saw, though.
Lots of faux flowers and reproduction rusted wire locker baskets and galvanized olive buckets to be seen.
The repurposed sales counters everywhere were just amazing.
How cute is this tagging kit.
There were lots of other shoppers too and a probable daily store staff of 20!
This hanging shelf was my favorite ...
But in the end it all felt like shopping at Anthropologie. Not that that's a bad thing.  I'm guessing that in the beginning the store housed unique Vintage finds, now there is definitely something for everyone, and I'm off to the Canton flea market hoping for done unique vintage goodness!  Of course I love Joanna and Chip, who can resist!

Nurturing my Scandinavian Heritage

So recently I've been exploring my Scandinavian side. As it happens I am half Norwegian ... And we were recently called to serve a mission in Finland this fall . Mr P served a 2 year mission there in his youth, and is thrilled to be going back.
So when I was selling these mushrooms at a recent vintage show and a customer mentioned that there had been red polka dotted mushrooms like that growing in her childhood home ...
Of course I was curious to know where that was!  Then she said Finland!  Her name is Stina!  I told her we were headed there in the fall, naturally we became instant friends and she invited us to a Finnish dinner!!
I loved her decor!
She made us piirakkas. A kind of pie made with a bread crust filled with a sweet rice. It's served with a chopped egg and butter spread and was wonderful!!
Note her cute fairy garden with the polka dot mushroom she made!
Here we are at her house, her American raised husband's parents are on the far right. It was great to talk about Finnish life and culture, and what to expect when we live there.
Then this past week Brittany of @houselarsbuilt on Instagram and a well known lifestyle blogger happened to come into the shop, and I recognized her. She does a lot with color and Scandinavian design. She lived in Denmark for 3 year and married a Dane.

My Norwegian side gobbles it all up.

These are my sweet Norwegian grandparents who died before I was born!

I'm currently cruising in the Gulf of Mexico, writing this blog on a sandy beach off Roatan.

And even down here we found that the art hanging just outside our state room is a photograph of a statue of the composer Sibelius, that Mr P had seen in person at a park in Helsinki. He may be the only person on board who actually knows the subject of this piece of art!!

I'm looking forward to our time in Finland. I expect to love every minute, as I rediscover myself in the land of the midnight sun, the land where my father's line grew and thrived!
