My Garden House, A Work In Progress.

Today I wanted to show you our work in progress.  I have dreamed of this little garden house for years.  I have collected windows and architectural features for years as well.  This picture was taken last Saturday.  As you can see my DH is hard at work.  I kept busy as well holding the trusses in place, even putting in a few screws and painting the Hobbit sized front door and the antique gingerbread spandrel that will grace the front eve of the garden house as well.

The finished house will be 12 feet long by 8 feet wide.  It will be multi use, featuring a sleeping loft for summer use as a tiny guest house, and an antique fireplace mantel, fitted with an electric 'fire' for warming it when I am using it as a green house in the early spring.

Keep checking back and I will keep you posted as it progresses during the snatches of time my DH can eek out of his busy work and social schedule ...
For instance, this Saturday will include watching our daughter in a horse show, then a few hours off (working on the garden house I hope)  before hitting the water park with the grands to celebrate Father's day.  Wish us well and keep coming back to see our work in progress!!

  1. Lucky, lucky you!!! I dream of having a little garden cottage play house, but unfortunately my husband doesn't possess the skills needed to build one. Your door and spandrel are the perfect touches for an enchanted cottage.

    1. I do feel lucky. Though my husband loves building, he is so busy that it hasn't happened these past 6 or 7 years. I am just tickled that we finally came up with a plan that works for him. (Pinching myself)

  2. I am happy for you that your garden house is now in progress. My husband has "threatened" to build a garden house for years. About once a year he buys another book or magazine from Home Depot with ideas and plans. It must be the ultimate, or he loses interest. His current "threatened" project is a narrow pergola along the fence line. We shall see...we shall see. =D

    1. Well my DH has put it off for years, so it sounds like your will eventually happen too. I want to see it when it does, sounds like your husband is inclined toward complicated so I bet it will be amazing. Mine will be very simple, really, with the vintage add ons, it will hopefully be charming as well.
