Renewing Antique Lamps

Found a pair of these sweet old lamps at an estate sale a couple of weeks ago. All they needed was some shades.  The frame above is one of a pair I had tucked away in the garage ...

Now all I needed was something to cover the shades. When I spied this soft pink embroidered netting I knew I had hit the jack pot. I cut the lace to the length of circumference of the base of the shade frame. Next I folded down the edge of the netting and did a basting stitch, which I then gather to the circumference of the top of the shade.  Last of all I tacked it to the frame.

I was pretty happy with how they turned out. They are in the antique mall now awaiting a new home!

Patriotic Door Hanger

 So, a couple of weeks ago I did a patriotic photo shoot on my front porch for a group I belong to called 'Reclaim-ologists and Other Craft Chicks', which sells locally on Facebook.

To do the shoot, I am embarrassed to say, I had to take down my 'spring' wreath ... now technically, it was the tail end of spring ... but still.

I found this great rectangular metal door bucket at a second hand store last week for two dollars.  It had a dried flower arrangement in it, and an original price tag still attached for $50.  Ooo La La,, I LOVED the patina.  Yep, I know it's 'new', but thought it would make the perfect 'base' for a new red, white and blue door hanger with vintage pops ... turns out, I was right!

 Using the graphic above, recently posted on Graphics Fairy, my go to place for antique art, and gathering lots of funky supplies, like milk caps, old buttons, scrabble tiles and what ever else caught my eye ... I got to work.

I love working with old buttons ... something about them is just magical for me.

Then, once I had decorated the bucket, I needed an arrangement.  Lollies made of old sheet music are always a good idea, and when I noticed the funky red and white striped picks, that I am saving for the Festival of Trees tree I am doing with my service group next Christmas ... I thought ... why not 'store' them in this arrangement for a bit.  I think they are the perfect pop of red, don't you? And they feel a little Dr. Suessish too!

 

So now, I am finally ready to move into to summer!!  Hope yours has not been as crazy hot as mine has been lately!!

Summer Banner Fun

 I have been making some changes in my bedroom lately, and realized that I have never had a pennant banner in there.  What?  How is that possible you say?

I know, that is just what I thought.

So I decided to go with a summer banner that made me think 'cool', 'as a cucumber'...  I love this old graphic of an vintage fan that I got off Graphics Fairy and have used before.

I used lots of fun vintage elements and the cool green to blue colors scheme, I love, so now my bedroom has that touch of whimsy that makes me smile.

BTW: I really had a hard time getting the light right for the pictures.  In reality, the filtered light that comes into the room all day is lovely.  In photos it is garish.  I used my camera for some pics, and my phone for others.  In all there were four sets of pictures, and none of them capture the beauty of the light in the room.

 

Alas, this picture taken after dark, seems to show the banner off best.

But I still love the look of my 'cool' banner across a day lit window in real life.  Thanks for coming along and listening to my picture taking woes!! Does any one have a solution?
