The Perfect Travel Theme Dinner Party

What a wonderful day, its time to party again with my Art Group.  We have such wonderful hostesses found among our numbers.  This time it is Joanne who has invited us to her Travel theme dinner party.

Each place is set with a 'State Tray' as a charger for each place setting, then a state dinner plate, and two more state plates for a bread and butter and dessert.  In the place 'card' setting is a post card from a state of significance to the guest, sunglasses, and a galvanized first initial.  The napkin is in a 'tire' napkin ring with a state handkerchief .

 The center piece is globes, maps, old tickets and travel postcards.

The whole room had travel touches ...

Ann and Jann were directly across from me.

 Here am I with my seat mates, Trina and Margo.

Here's the lot of us.  Actually we had two who canceled, and were much missed.

Then we celebrated Trina's birthday.

 The candle flare was so fun to watch, and to take pictures of, evidently.

 This is Jann and Kim, Kim was busy that week, making us all witch boxes.

Each box had a personalized detail.

Shirley loves all thing Switz and got a Heidi Witch, how fun.

Joanne was the perfect hostess and deserved lots of sweet hostess gifts.  This is my favorite, because its a crow, and Joanne loves it, despite the fact that she is not a fan of Halloween, and insists that it does not look like a Halloween decoration.  We love you Joanne!! Thanks for a fabulous evening.

Map Mania

 With the witches tea behind me, its time to dive in ... the Reclaimologists' Boutique is this Friday and Saturday ... Yikes!

So I spent the day Saturday working on projects ... mostly stuff that needed paint or a bit of tweaking.  To the left is a sewing stand, now painted and restyled with a map.

 The chair above was solid and already had great old paint, but the seat had split and the middle sections, unsupported, were hanging down ... new brackets on the bottom, and a little bit more in the red department ... and now its ready to go!

This child's chair need its joints glued and some new paint!

This old game box was just charming, and I loved the design, so it was flattened and slightly reconfigured to fit this great fat frame, that I had painted and distressed!

 

The map table above, was actually, well, a map table in a former life ... but when I got it the base was missing.  By switching out the attachment assembly (thanks dear) I was able to attach it to an old gumball stand ... isn't it awesome? (Oh and note the map interior on the box on the red chair.)

Last of all, is my favorite project.  It was a nicely made wood box, probably done by a wood working student in high school.  I painted it, distressed it, lined it with old maps from a nice old atlas and added the compass feature on the top, using a great graphic I found at my 'go to' place, Graphics Fairy.  Thanks again Karen!
