The Tale of a Wounded Toy Sewing Machine.

For Thrifty Thursday, I wanted to share a story of thinking 'salvage' instead of 'garbage'. Isn't this little pink sewing machine just too sweet? How cute would it be in a sewing room display or even in a little girl's room?

It may never have happened, though it is a fun miniature toy machine from the 40's or 50's.  First of all it had the misfortune of being an unattractive color.  It sat in the antique store for 8 years, without finding a  home, even though it was in working condition.  Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, it got a bump and a break when a customer knocked it on the floor and the fly wheel, which is cast iron, broke.  Thanks Heavens for E6000 and all the kings horses and all the kings men ... er, uh, rather ... me.

Once it was broken, I had no qualms about repainting it and adding new decals, or in this case, graphic frames and a sweet little silhouette of a girl that I found here at Graphics Fairy.  In working condition, it needed to be left original, but broken and repaired, I felt free to make it cute.

I think it turned out pretty cute, and instead of having a 50 something price tag of a collectible, it can now have the 15ish price of a decorator piece.  Hopefully it will find a home, now that it is cute and pink and cheap!!

Thanks for coming along and hearing the story of the rescue of the little broken toy sewing machine, I hope you liked the happy ending.  Oh and just for fun I will be sharing this with Ivy and Elephants Wednesday Party.

  1. How cute is that?! An unfortunate accident (you didn't push if off the shelf, did you?) worked to your advantage. I love the photo with the little dresser, doll, and yoyo quilt. Mmmmm, mmmm, mmmm!!!

  2. Beautiful job! Laughed at Vickie's comment. :-) Anyway, can you imagine an actual working sewing machine made for a little girl! So cool! I'm sure that nowadays some government agency would declare it a hazard and Congress would pass a law forbidding it. Glad you got the sewing machine. You made it look so cute! I think I need to do some serious thrifting with an eye to refurbishing or redoing. Such nice work. The little machine looks great!

  3. I can visualize a high shelf in a girl's room with vintage children's toys...sewing machine, doll house, dishes, etc. Cute to look at...but out of reach of clumsy little hands...lol!
